Week 2 | We Are Finite and Broken

Theme
As we behold God’s Holiness, we begin to see ourselves rightly.
Reflection
Standing before God’s holiness does not lead us to despair, but the end of ourselves and into the hope of a life and freedom greater than we can fathom. In His light, we see ourselves more clearly. We are finite. We are fragile. We are limited in understanding and often divided in heart. Lent does not ask us to hide these realities; it invites us to bring our whole selves, unfiltered and unguarded, into God’s presence.
Our brokenness is not a surprise to God. He knows our wounds, our patterns, our fears and failures, even our sin, and He does not turn away from them, or from us. God’s gaze is not one of rejection, but of nearness and compassion.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” — Psalm 34:18
Even in our rebellion, even when we were distant and resistant, God moved toward us in love.
“For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!”
— Romans 5:10
Truthfully naming our need is not weakness; it is wisdom. Healing begins where honesty replaces performance, where we stop pretending and allow ourselves to be fully seen. In that place, we discover that God’s mercy meets us not where we should be, but exactly where we are.
