As a church, we’re stepping out to be a light in our communities, to be the hands, feet, heart, and voice of God right where we live and work. For some of us, prayer walking might be new or a bit outside our comfort zone, that’s okay. We want to encourage everyone to stretch a bit and know that God will meet you where you are.
- For Families: We’ve included child-friendly themes and simple questions so parents can involve their kids. Each week, you’ll find a few prompts to help children think about what God is doing and how they can pray along with you.
- For Small Groups: If you’re part of a small group, consider gathering to discuss the weekly scripture and themes before you head out. This can help set your intention and hearts on what God might do as you walk and pray together.
- For Individuals: If you prefer to do this solo, that’s great. You can follow the same themes with the same Spirit.
- For Those at Home: If physical limitations keep you from walking, you can absolutely join in from home. Set aside some time to pray through the themes and know that you’re part of this communal effort. We’ll also have opportunities to gather at the church for prayer if that’s easier for you.
As we step out to be a light in our neighborhoods, let’s remember that prayer walking is simply inviting God into the places, relationships and situations that we are in or that surround us where we live and work. Whether we’re walking with family, friends, or on our own, we trust that God is with us wherever we go.
Scripture for the Primer:
- Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
- Quote: St. Augustine: “Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.”
