3/19/20 COVID-19 Update: A Message from Pastor Mike
As Paul would start many of his letters, we are praying that the grace and peace of God have been tangible to you over the past several days. It has been unbelievable the stories of encouragement we have heard about how the body of Christ is loving one another during this season. Thank you for loving your neighbors fearlessly in the face of illness and uncertainty.
We wanted to provide a quick update and connect you to some resources that we can use to serve and stay connected while we exercise wisdom in our interactions and monitor updates from leading voices in our nation about COVID-19.
As communities around the nation enact policies that are further limiting in-person gatherings, our previous recommendation to continue community groups can no longer stand. If we continue to ask the question about doing everything we can to shepherd the body safely, it is becoming increasingly clear that we cannot gather as we planned. As an alternative to our in-person gatherings, we will be creating digital gatherings allowing group members to see and hear one another. Your community group leader will be reaching out in the next few days to help you connect to your next digital gathering. If you are not currently in a community group, we will do our best to connect you. Contact us at .
Upcoming Short-Term Trips
We will be postponing our upcoming short-term trips to Jackson, MS and the Middle East until a later date.
We also want to offer a few resources to provide aid for tangible needs during this season. Here are a few ways to receive help:
- Haves and Needs: A few years ago, we established a peer-to-peer network where our congregation could share needs or share resources they have available for those in need. During this season, we want to highlight this once again. This past week, we heard an incredible testimony of one family meeting the need of another family without a vehicle. If you would like to share a need or resource, go to the Haves and Needs page on the KHC Website.
- Delivery Service: We are aware that there are people within our body who are among the group deemed highly susceptible to the coronavirus due to underlying health factors and age. One of the ways we desire to serve you is by building a team available to run errands for you and delivering items you need. In an effort to make this as simple as possible, we have created a specific phone number that you can call to request help. That number is (310) 294.6821.
- Financial Aid and Employment Resources: Many of you may be aware of the stimulus packages our nation’s leaders have approved over the past few days. However, there are other resources that may allow you to receive aid for a portion of your lost income. You can find this information at edd.ca.gov. If you need help navigating some of these resources, please contact us at .
We are developing a rhythm for updates and encouragement, so please return to the Elder Updates page regularly for the latest information. Please also join us in prayer as we continue to seek the Lord's wisdom for how to care for the needs of our church.
