3/12/20 COVID-19 Update: A Message from KHC Elders
As mentioned this past weekend at our worship services, we are closely assessing and monitoring recommendations made by local authorities to businesses, churches, and K-12 schools in the Southbay regarding the COVID-19 Coronavirus.
We wanted to take a moment to discuss our current thinking regarding our plans to respond to some of the measures for containment regarding the coronavirus. Yesterday, we saw nationwide measures such as the suspension of travel from European nations, the NBA suspending games until further notice, and the NCAA electing to host its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments without the presence of fans. In addition, we have seen a recommendation from our governor to cancel any gatherings of 250 or more people and colleges in our region elect to move towards online classes only. However, there are no confirmed or suspected cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus in the local college campus communities as of today, Thursday, March 12.
We are watching all of this closely. We are grateful for the wisdom from these sources. One of the sources we want to watch most closely is the local school districts of Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, and Torrance. Because of their proximity and similar patterns of exposure (students don’t stay on campus like a college), they seem to be the best barometer for initiating a containment plan.
With that in mind, we will continue to watch the developments from the local school districts and will provide an update tomorrow, Friday, March 13 at noon about our upcoming weekend events as well as more details about our long-term plan for in-person gatherings. In addition, we will be providing future updates on the King’s Harbor Church website. We will also provide shorter updates, links, and reminders via email and social media. If you have any questions please email us at .
Please continue to pray for wisdom for us as we continue to pray for health and safety for each of you.
Trusting Christ with you,
Jim, Mike, Ted and Tom
