10/30/20 A Message From KHC Elders
We trust that the Lord is keeping you close to himself! There is a lot going on in our country right now with an uptick in the coronavirus cases, next week’s election, and whatever you might be going through personally. We want to take a moment to encourage you in the Lord…Psalm 46:1-3, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah." If at any point, you need prayer or someone to talk to, we are here 24/7 to serve, love, and care for you!
Having said that, we want to update you on a few exciting things that are happening in the life of KHC as well as call us to pray for the upcoming election next week:
Church on the Beach
Back in March, when COVID-19 in-person gathering restrictions were first put in place, we not only needed to close our building services but our COTB service as well. Since then, we have been praying and thinking about how to best reopen COTB when we would have the opportunity to do so. At this point, we are excited to announce that we have recently been granted a permit to begin meeting at the beach again and we are continuing to finalize details and logistics around how to faithfully reopen. We plan to share more information in the next couple of weeks and we ask that you would enter into prayer for this ministry. With this in mind, we are specifically praying for the Lord to raise up servant leaders to be a part of our COTB team and want to ask you to prayerfully consider this opportunity for yourself as well as someone who you think may be interested. To learn more about being a part of the COTB team, please contact Jason Flentye at .
Children’s Ministry Pilot Program
Another exciting update is that we’ve launched a pilot program to engage our 1st-5th graders with Children’s Ministry programming during our on-site services. Although we are limited to the number of children who can participate at this time, if you have children who fall into this category, you will have the option to do so when registering for on-site services. If the Children's Ministry option does not appear on the registration page, that means that the program is full for that service.
Additional Sunday Service
The elders are sensitive to the importance of gathering as a family to worship the Lord together and want to provide access for as many people as possible to attend a weekly service in-person, so we are praying and talking through adding an additional on-site service. At this time, we think it is wise to wait until Pastor Mike returns in order for him to lend his voice to the conversation. In the meantime, we’ll be sending out a survey in the near future to ask for your input on service times you would likely attend.
KHC Financial Update
We desire to keep our church family informed of our financial health by providing regular updates. We’re currently in the process of examining our third-quarter finances and will be sharing more information next week.
A Call to Prayer for our Nation and Leaders
As mentioned earlier, we have an important election next week. As followers of Christ, let’s agree that the power of the gospel is boundless in its reach, which includes the political arena. As a result, we want to be good stewards when we cast our ballot. It is a wise thing to slow down and evaluate our position on policies in light of scripture, not the other way around. In other words, our theology should dictate our ideology, not vice versa.
As the body of Christ, we should keep a few things in mind; scripture teaches that all people are made in the image of God (Gen. 1:27) and should be equally valued and shown dignity! The good news of the gospel is that God so loved the world that He gave His only son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). That in Christ, believers from every tongue, tribe, and nation, are reconciled to God (Rev. 5:9, 2 Cor. 5:18) and we are one (Acts 17:26, Rom. 12:5). We have a charge from the Lord to preserve and protect life, all life, from the womb to the tomb. To defend the weak, the fatherless, and to uphold the cause of the poor and oppressed (Ps. 82:3). Likewise, to seek justice, defend the oppressed, plead the case of the widow (Is. 1:17), to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves (Prov 31:8).
Regardless of which candidate wins the election, we can honor God by honoring His word. Granted, we are voting in a system with broken people, but God chooses to use human leaders to carry out His will. Romans 13:1 says, “For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” If you are a follower of Jesus, though sojourners/pilgrims passing through life here on earth, our citizenship is in heaven.
So when Tuesday arrives and you go to vote, our prayer for you who call King’s Harbor home is to be informed, to be led by the Holy Spirit, to honor God, love your neighbor, and be at peace knowing that one day, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.” (Rev. 11:15).
Peace and blessings,
Tom Sheck, on behalf of KHC Elders
